Yes, the Liemba is still sailing every second week – she sailed last week so will sail again from Kigoma on the 5th Feb. Last week there was a problem with the generator and so she left very late and was over a day late by the time she headed back northwards. We have had lots of rain this year but despite all the storms she is still sailing. Apart from being late every now and then it seems to be business as usual.

All is well in Kipili and at Lake Shore, too. We have been given permission to look after the old White Father’s Mission (that beautiful old ruin on the hill next to Lake Shore) and so we have started clearing the bush from around the church and the old gravesite.
In December 2013 we had a visit from the author of a book about the White Fathers in Western Tanzania (Father Peter) and I took him up to the old church. He sent me some gorgeous old photos of what the church used to look like with the white sisters house on the right (which also had a Dispensary) and the white father’s house on the left. So interesting. It must have been really beautiful. I will send you some photos of what it used to look like and what it looks like now.
The idea is not to rebuild the mission but rather to preserve it and hopefully to stop it from falling down. It has the most beautiful view from up there and is such a lovely peaceful place to go. It is one of the oldest churches in Tanzania so we are really happy to be able to look after it.
Ach, Kipili. Ich könnte sofort wieder hinfahren. Mal schauen, was Rolf dazu sagt…
